Some of you may be wondering who I am as a person. I mean I am obviously not just a Virginia elopement photographer, right? Well let's get deep down and personal in this blog post.
So in all transparency I have picked 21 questions to help you get to know me a little better. Cause lets face it, you don't want to hire someone to just stand behind the camera and push a button, anyone can do that right?
No, you want to hire someone who is there for every important family event, every milestone, someone you trust enough to share your precious, private life experiences with.
I don't know about you but I want someone who shares common interests and really gets me. When you find that connection a photo session becomes more like a chat with a friend over coffee and less like an uncomfortable blind date, Am I right?
So who is ready for some transparency? Cause it's about to get real up in here!
1. Where is your favorite place to escape to?
My happy place is the bathtub. My kids know when I go in there to be quiet and let momma get her some relaxation. I use some bath salts and classical music, with my glass of wine and favorite book at the moment and the world just melts away. When I come out I feel like a whole new person. Rinse and repeat at least once a week.
2. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Honestly I was the most argumentative kid in the world (and they were good arguments). All my teachers, principals and parents told me I should be a lawyer. When I saw how much school it would take I decided that it wasn't for me. (and to think I could have changed the world someday)
3. Are you a messy or clean person?
I have OCD to a fault and I am the most organized person you will ever meet. My friends used to sneak into my house and rearrange my movies that were in alphabetical order just to mess with me.
4. Do you like your name and why?
I love my name now because it is original but when I was a kid oh how I wished I could be a Jessica or something normal that fit in better. Now I like living outside the box and feel my name fits me perfectly.
5. What is your guilty pleasure?
Don't judge me but I love UTZ sour cream and onion potato chips and will eat a whole bag in one sitting. Im sure the people who check out my groceries think I am always partying with all the chips I eat!
6. Are you an extrovert or introvert?
It's hard to explain but I am kind of both. I love people and I am wide open around them but I really enjoy being home in my pajamas curled up with a good book also!
7. What are you most self conscious about?
Right now I would have to say my weight. I know its cliche and I can hear you yelling... Lay off the potato chips!
8.Who in this world knows you best?
That one is easy, God is my best friend and he knows me better than anyone.
9. What decade do you feel like you belong to?
I feel like the late 60's early 70's! There is just something about this time I have romanticized. Big poofy dresses and balls with classy dancing!
10. Do you easily accept compliments?
This might sound like a silly question to some of you but NO I do not. I am sure this is because of all my insecurities and I am working on doing it better.
11.Where do you want to live when you retire?
First of all retire? Haha that's a joke, I plan on taking pictures until my eyes fail and my hands no longer can hold a camera. I would love to move somewhere further south though. Such as Savannah or Charleston, I feel these places are so romanticized.
12. What board game do you hate the most?
Am I the only family who cannot play a whole game of monopoly without a screaming match and the game ending on the floor upside down? Every time I say I am never playing this game, wait 3 months and here we go again.
13. What is the one thing you want to be remembered for?
I would love to be remembered for my kindness I just find this quality so endearing! I am working towards being kinder to people everyday.
14.What in life are you the most thankful for?
I know it sounds cliche but my children. They are my best friends and I do not know where my life would be without them. I am truly blessed to have such awesome kids as these that I truly love spending time with them.
15. My favorite book?
Gone with the wind- Margaret Mitchell
If you have not read it, do so. It is the perfect mix of romance, history, excitement, and drama. You cannot help but fall in love with the characters and root for your favorites.
16. Qualities I most admire about others?
I value transparency and honesty. It is something so rare to find these days when I finally do I am like "you are going to be my person!"
17. What inspires me?
Honestly everything; nature, light, expressions, the sincere things people do when they think you aren't watching. I love people watching, seeing how they interact with each other is so eye opening to me.
18.Who would you change places with for a day?
Vivian Mier, she was such an amazing person. She took these beautiful photos of everyday life on the street and never even showed them to anyone. She got found out long after she had passed away. Believe me when I say hers was a story to tell!
19.What childish thing do you still do?
I have a sock monkey that we all talk to and play with, to the point he is like the Velveteen rabbit and we truly brought hime to life! He is like our year round elf on the shelf.
20. What is your favorite place in the whole world?
Chick's Beach!!!! I spent half my life on this beach at all different stages of my life. My children grew up here. Every time I go home for a visit I have to go to this beach and put my feet in the sand and center my soul. It has truly become like my refresh button!
21. What is your favorite way to spend a saturday?
Occasionally we hike on the weekends. However, anytime we are not doing that you can find us in our pajamas with our buts parked on the couch in front of the TV. We bring a whole new meaning to the words Netflix and Chill!
So there you have it, now that I have bared my soul I hope you feel a little closer to me ( and probably better about yourself, lol). If you have any questions I didn't answer feel free to ask me. I am literally an open book. I know I am not perfect and I have a long way to go before I reach my goal. That being said I love who I am (most days).
